I have joined the Shek Lei St. John’s Catholic Primary School (SLSJCPS) family since September 2017. Having served in the Catholic Diocesan Schools for over 15 years and taking the role of a teacher and an administrator in the education field for more than 2 decades, the previous experiences and ongoing challenges drive my passion and dedication.

We, as either teachers or parents, are their role models who, should guide the next generation of Hong Kong to travel on the right path as they are the key to building our future.‘Train a boy in the way he should go, even he is old, he will not swerve from it” ( Proverbs 22:6)

Under the supervision of IMC and the Catholic Education Office, Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, Shek Lei St. John’s Catholic Primary School is rooted in our school motto: - Diligence, Courage, Modesty and Honesty, and the 5 core values - Truth, Justice, Love, Life and Family.

Viewing the everlasting changing world and increasing connectedness in the 21st century, curriculum evolution to meet the learners’ diverse needs and the upholding of positive values are crucial. Shek Lei St. John’s Catholic Primary School aims to nurture young generations with strategic reading habits and language competences, inquisitive minds and a positive outlook on life instilled for every individual. Self-directed learning capabilities, independent and critical thinking skills, collaborative abilities, international mindedness, creative problem-solving capabilities and tri-literacy competences (literacy in English, Chinese and Information Technology) will be further developed in order to meet their future challenges.

From the academic year of 2017-2018, STEM (the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics ) takes the spirit of knowledge application to the next level. It is especially emphasised in General Studies. It is our sincere hope that students’ potentials and diversity are well addressed in order to equip them with modern skills to meet their future challenges. Moreover, positive education and class culture building will be advocated with the joint efforts of our caring and passionate teachers and parents.

Shek Lei St. John’s Catholic Primary School recognises that the school internal capacity enhancement ais the backbone of student learning and development. SLSJCPS takes a student-centred pedagogy. It is believed that our students’ potentials will be further developed when varied learning platforms are set.

Some students are academically talented while others are non-academic who are interested in music, art, sports and so on. As soon as students’ talents are well-recognised and developed, they will become more confident and their achievements will be realized.

To strengthen students’ learning initiative and team spirit, a house system (namely Diligence, Courage, Modesty and Honesty) is established from this academic year (2018-2019) onwards.The poster of the school theme “Love & Family” with the highlight of Catholic Education educating students to cherish life with love and love others by following the good example of Jesus Christ. Students are nurtured to send love to their families and always keep the SLSJCPS spirit “ Love with love, Love Each Other” in their mind. Apart from it, there are 2 other posters with some slogans posted in each classroom and around the campus.

The tears of students, parents and teachers are never for fear and worries, but for the passion of dedication and efforts. It is the joint energies that let SLSJCPS students flourish and love their lives.

Shek Lei St. John’s Catholic Primary School will have our 50th anniversary in the year of 2020. That attributes an environment full of stimulation and encouragement in which all students can unleash their full potential and celebrate their success.
