Mainland Exchange Programme: Brave Adventure in the Capital! P.5 students from Shek Lei St. John's Catholic Primary School Transform into Historical Detectives and Adventurers

This winter, P.5 students from Shek Lei St. John's Catholic Primary School, supported by the Education Bureau's mainland exchange program, traveled to Beijing from 5th January to 8th January for an adventure in history, culture, and natural science. Over four days and three nights, they became detectives, architects, and shopping experts, experiencing many "firsts" and growing amid laughter and challenges.

At the Forbidden City, students used task cards to hunt rooftop mythical beasts, learning ancient architecture's ranks and meanings via games. They then scaled Juyongguan Great Wall, competing as "heroes" and marveling at the world wonder.

Interactive museums sparked joy: At Zhoukoudian Site, they crafted clay ape-men; at the Temple of Confucius and Imperial Academy, they built mortise-and-tenon models, discovering nail-free ingenuity; at Beijing Museum of Natural History, they illustrated dinosaur guides, uncovering prehistoric secrets.

The trip built independence: First solo travels, self-managing routines, and bonding with peers. From packing to budgeting, they aced shopping tasks on Qianmen Street. Evening chats strengthened friendships.

Games wove in learning, with stops at the Bird's Nest and Water Cube for ancient-modern contrasts, fostering national pride. Teachers noted remarkable growth.

This Beijing excursion turned classrooms mobile, deepening appreciation for Chinese heritage and personal development. The school plans more diverse programs and seeks parental backing for experiential learning.
